BESS Stations

Chimax has successfully completed detailed engineering design for multiple Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) stations across Ontario. Our experience includes the design of BESS facilities and associated balance of plant systems for projects ranging in capacity from 2 MW to 150 MW. In addition to detailed design, Chimax has supported developers through feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, and cost estimation for a variety of BESS projects, enabling informed decision-making at early project stages. Currently, Chimax is engaged in the detailed design of several BESS substations, including projects at 230/34.5 kV and 44 kV voltage levels, further demonstrating our capability in delivering complex, utility-scale energy infrastructure.

Hydro One Station

Chimax has provided detailed engineering services for several Hydro One transmission station over the years as an engineering partner to the EPC team. Previously Chimax completed the detailed design of 230 kV Guelph Cedar new greenfield station and refurbishment to the existing station, Aylmer Station, Overbrook Substation, SMR I and II Substation. Currently Chimax is working on the detailed design of two 500 kV substations, transmission lines and distribution lines connected to the substations.

Distribution Station

Chimax has completed number of distribution stations design for several distribution utilities all over Ontario. We completed stations design for Toronto Hydro, Inn Power, Elexicon Energy, Oakville Hydro and Sudbury Hydro. Currently we are providing comprehensive detailed engineering services to Elexicon Energy for the design and development of the Winchester West 44 kV distribution station. Prior to detailed design, Chimax also completed the feasibility study, preliminary engineering, and environmental assessment for the Winchester West 44 kV distribution station for Elexicon Energy.

Utility Transmission Stations

Chimax has provided substation design for major Canadian utilities throughout Canada. In Ontario Chimax worked for several stations design for Hydro One and outside Ontario, we worked for detailed station design for many transmission utilities and lines connected to stations owned by transmission utilities. Currently we are working on a detailed station design (civil and structural design) for a 230 kV station owned by PUC Transmission in Sault Ste. Marrie.

Industrial and Mining Substation

Chimax has extensive experience in the engineering and design of substations for industrial and mining applications, delivering reliable and robust solutions tailored to demanding operating environments. Our expertise spans medium- and high-voltage substations supporting a wide range of industrial facilities, including manufacturing plants, processing facilities, and mining operations. Chimax has provided substation engineering services for several major industrial clients, including Algoma Steel, Gerdau industrial facilities, Stelco Hamilton Works, Moose River Gold Mine, Lalor Mine and Vale mining operations. These projects demonstrate our capability to design and deliver complex, transmission-connected substations that meet stringent industrial performance and reliability requirements. All substations engineered by Chimax for industrial and mining clients are transmission-connected, typically operating at primary voltage levels ranging from 230 kV to 115 kV. Our designs incorporate high reliability, operational flexibility, and provisions for future expansion to support continuous and critical industrial operations.

Transmission Station for Renewable Energy

Chimax has strong experience in the engineering and design of transmission stations supporting renewable energy projects, delivering efficient and reliable solutions for grid integration. Our portfolio includes substations associated with solar, wind, and hydroelectric projects, all designed to meet utility requirements and evolving grid demands. Over the years, Chimax has completed approximately 30 detailed designs for transmission-connected substations (115 kV to 500 kV) and switching station supporting renewable energy projects across Canada. This experience demonstrates our capability to deliver high-quality, utility-compliant designs for a wide range of generation technologies and project scales.
