Chimax has successfully completed detailed engineering design for multiple Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) stations across Ontario. Our experience includes the design of BESS facilities and associated balance of plant systems for projects ranging in capacity from 2 MW to 150 MW. In addition to detailed design, Chimax has supported developers through feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, and cost estimation for a variety of BESS projects, enabling informed decision-making at early project stages. Currently, Chimax is engaged in the detailed design of several BESS substations, including projects at 230/34.5 kV and 44 kV voltage levels, further demonstrating our capability in delivering complex, utility-scale energy infrastructure.

The firm has completed several transmission line projects, including the detailed design of a 180 km, 138 kV line serving remote communities. Chimax is providing comprehensive detailed engineering services to Elexicon Energy for the design and development of the Winchester West 44 kV distribution station. Prior to detailed design, Chimax also completed the feasibility study, preliminary engineering, and environmental assessment for the Winchester West 44 kV distribution station for Elexicon Energy.
Chimax is supporting the development of critical transmission infrastructure by providing detailed design for a double-circuit 500 kV transmission line linking the SMR station at the Ontario Power Generation Darlington site to a Hydro One station. The project incorporates lattice steel structures, for which Chimax is undertaking full structural design in addition to the detailed line design.
Chimax has provided detailed engineering services for several Hydro One transmission station over the years as an engineering partner to the EPC team. Previously Chimax completed the detailed design of 230 kV Guelph Cedar new greenfield station and refurbishment to the existing station, Aylmer Station, Overbrook Substation, SMR I and II Substation. Chimax has completed detailed transmission line design for several renewable projects connecting the project substations to the provincial transmission grid. Over the years, Chimax has completed detailed design of over 2,500 km of transmission lines connecting wind and solar projects to the transmission system. Currently Chimax is supporting the development of renewable energy infrastructure in Nova Scotia by providing detailed design services for a 230 kV transmission line and a 34.5 kV overhead collector line serving 22 wind turbines. Working directly with the project developer, Chimax is undertaking the full detailed engineering design for both line systems to facilitate efficient power collection and transmission.

Chimax has significant experience in the design of complex distribution crossings over Ontario’s 400-series highways, including double- and triple-circuit configurations. In the Greater Toronto Area, these projects have been executed using self-supporting steel monopole with deep caisson foundation and composite pole structures. All such crossings are engineered using PLS-CADD, ensuring precise modelling, safe clearances, and optimized structural design. These designs were completed for multiple Ontario utilities.
